Hybrid golf bags are becoming more popular amongst golfers.
For good reason too. They’re designed for golfers who regularly walk and ride. They’re basically a mix of a stand bag and a cart bag.
Best Hybrid Golf Bags
I broke out my rankings by four categories, best overall, best premium, best value or budget, and best lightweight bag.
Each of these bags are reviewed in full further down in this post. I encourage you to read the full recommendations if you’re considering buying.
Best Overall Hybrid Golf Bags
Best Premium Hybrid Golf Bags
Best Value or Budget Hybrid Golf Bags
Best Lightweight Hybrid Golf Bags
TaylorMade Supreme Hybrid Golf Bag
Honorable mention best lightweight hybrid golf bag
8.1/10
A typical hybrid bag has…
As you can see, hybrid bags offer the best of both worlds. I would say the main knock is that they’re slightly heavier than normal stand bags and a little bit more expensive. That said, those shouldn’t deter you. I reviewed some real high-quality hybrid bags that any golfer will appreciate.
Features to Consider in Choosing a Hybrid Golf Bag
Buying a new bag can be overwhelming, there are so many options. I recommend taking a look at my previous post on choosing the right type of golf bag, it’s not very long and will give you a good idea on what type of bag would suit you best.
Obviously not all bags are the same. That’s why I spent the time to look at every detail and consider the best choices in each category. I looked at the following areas.
Carry Straps
A typical hybrid bag will have carrying straps. Some of them will be more comfortable than others though. Since golfers want hybrid bags to be able to walk a round, it’s important that the straps don’t put unnecessary stress on your back. I’ll look at each bag and actually walk a round to see how I feel after.
Pockets
Hybrid bags will appease golfers who appreciate ample storage in their bag. They typically have more storage space than your typical stand or carry bags, but also some nice features like insulated cooler pockets or fleece lined valuables pockets. For this review, I’ll take a look at the total number of pockets, but also which ones are the most useful and versatile on the golf course.
Weight
Perhaps the most important feature for a golf bag that will be carried is the weight. I reviewed over 20 hybrid bags that weighed from 4.4 lbs to 7.5 lbs. Since you’re going to use the bag for walking, it’s advantageous to find a lighter bag. That said, with more weight may come stronger, more durable material. A bag that lasts is an important consideration in my rankings.
Club Storage
I feel like club organizers are all personal preference. Some golfers prefer 14-way, while others will sacrifice the number of club slots for other benefits. That said, I looked at how many slots are in each club organizer system for every bag reviewed.
Durability
Golf bags have the tendency to wear down over time. Specifically, cart straps can rip your bag or stand systems can break if you’re not careful with how you set them down. In the interest of protecting your investment, I looked at how well each bag will hold up over time.
Price
There was a wide price range for hybrid bags. I looked at ones under $200 and up to $375. I found that price doesn’t necessarily mean the bag is better though. In fact, the best overall bag reviewed (Big Max Dri Lite Hybrid) happened to be one of the least expensive bags. Regardless, price will be factored into our rankings.
Scroll down this page to see the full reviews for each bag.
I spent many hours playing with each of these bags, finding the best and worst of each so you don’t have to.
Take the time to read each review as they will provide additional insight. I hope you are able to make an informed purchase after reading!
Best Overall Hybrid Golf Bag
Big Max Dri Lite Hybrid Bag
- 14-way organizer w/ full length dividers.
- 7 pockets including insulated cooler pocket.
- Waterproof material w/ seam sealed waterproof zippers.
- Patented hybrid stand system compatibility.
- 2 point padded should strap.
- 4.4 lbs
Big Max did it right. The Dri Lite Hybrid Bag comes loaded with pretty much every feature you could want in a bag.
For starters, the bag weighs only 4.4 pounds, astonishingly light and easy to carry. There’s also the water resistant material and seam sealed zippers, insuring your belongings actually stay dry.
What really sold me though was the stand system and cart compatibility. Before writing my review I demo’ed this bag for a riding round and a walking round. Both times were great experiences.
When riding, the bag stayed in place, as advertised. Even though I keep balls in my cart when riding, I especially liked the quick grab ball pocket on the front of the bag too. For a high-handicapper like myself, it was nice to have access to an extra set of balls.
The walking round felt effortless. The stand worked as expected and my back didn’t kill after the round. The bag is so light and the 2-point shoulder strap system did it’s job.
I’ve started noticing these bags a lot more on the course too. I make sure to ask the people I see with these bags how they’re liking them, and not one person has had anything bad to say. These bags come highly regarded by many, not just myself.
Runner up:
Best Overall Hybrid Golf Bag
Titleist Hybrid 14 Bag
- 14-way organizer w/ tour inspired handles.
- 9 pockets including double apparel pockets for max storage.
- Premium double strap system.
- Cart strap tunnel and push cart rest.
- 6.1 lbs
I went back and forth between this bag and the Big Max Dri Lite. Ultimately, I ended up favoring the Dri Lite for a few reasons. It’s waterproof, a bit lighter, and less expensive.
That said, the Titleist Hybrid Bag is well worth it and may end up being slightly more durable in the long run. I especially like that this bag has a cart strap tunnel, insuring the upper portion of the bag stays intact for as long as possible.
The push cart rest is another great feature as well. It really helps lock the bag in place, even when pushing over bumpy terrain.
You should consider this bag if you’re looking for an all around great bag that’s versatile enough to play with whether you’re riding or walking.
Here’s a video from Titleist highlighting the bags features for those interested in learning a little more:
Second Runner Up:
Best Overall Hybrid Golf Bag
Nike Air Hybrid Golf Bag
- 14-way organizer w/ full length dividers.
- 10 pockets including insulated cooler pocket.
- Adjustable Equaflex Max Air Dual Strap System.
- Lightweight and durable aluminum construction.
- 6.4 lbs
The Nike Air Hybrid is actually on its second iteration as the Nike Air Hybrid 2. Both bags are similar and for the sake of this review I’m grouping them as one.
The first point worth mentioning is that Nike makes quality equipment across the board. Seriously. And if the bag malfunctions, they’re usually pretty good about replacing. Point being that your investment will be worthwhile and you shouldn’t need to get a new bag for a while.
Beyond that, the bag was really easy to carry.
Out of all the hybrid bags I tried out, this one had the best shoulder strap system for walking. The straps were very comfortable and I could feel the difference.
I also liked the 14-way organizer with full length dividers. Pulling my clubs in and out of the bag was surprisingly easy, although, if you have wider grips I could see them potentially getting caught up in the wells.
Honorable Mention:
Best Overall Hybrid Golf Bag
Ogio WOODĒ 8 Hybrid Bag
- 8-way organizer w/ full length dividers.
- 9 pockets including rapid access snap ball pocket.
- Closed-cell foam molded double shoulder strap w/ self-balancing system.
- 13 unique color combinations.
- 6.5 lbs
I gave the Ogio WOODĒ Hybrid Bag an honorable mention because it deserved some recognition in the world of hybrid bags.
What stands out the most to me is the unique club organizer:
You won’t find another bag on the market with this type of club divider setup. For those looking for a 14-way organizer, I encourage you to give this bag a try. It’s not the same but provides a similar feel and you may actually like it better.
When I tried out the bag my initial thought was how comfortable the closed-cell foam double shoulder strap was. Even when I was trying to hustle down the course, the self-balancing strap system was able to keep the bag steady, which I thought was a really unique feature.
The quick snap ball pocket will be a blessing for those who walk frequently. Its nice to be able to grab a ball from the outside of your bag (and not dig in a pocket) when you shank one into the woods.
Lastly, the 13 unique color combinations provide enough variety for anyone’s taste. These are really cool looking bags and you’ll be sure to get compliments on the course.
Mizuno Tour 14-Way Stand Bag
- 14-way organizer w/ 6 full length dividers.
- 8 pockets including large insulated cooler pocket.
- Adjustable, padded should straps.
- Push cart compatible bottom.
- 7.4 lbs
If you’re looking for a premium hybrid golf bag, then the Mizuno Tour 14-Way Stand Bag fits the bill.
This bag uses the same polyurethane leather material as their Tour Staff Bag, giving off the premium vibe.
In my opinion the only noticeable flaw with this bag is the weight. At 7.4 lbs, it’s the second heaviest bag I reviewed. If you plan on carrying frequently, then I would recommend testing this out before buying to make sure you’ll be able to handle walking a round with the added weight.
Otherwise, there are no other complaints with this bag. The bag looks great and the storage compartments are well thought out. The magnetic ball compartment cover is super useful.
The large insulated cooler pocket works as expected. My drinks were still cold at the end of the round.
Worth mentioning, this is on the more expensive end of hybrid bags I reviewed, but that’s expected with a premium bag in my opinion.
Bag Boy Chiller Hybrid Stand Bag
- 15-way organizer w/ full length dividers.
- 8 pockets including removable insulated cooler pocket up to 4 cans.
- TOP-LOK technology.
- Hidden cart strap sleeve.
- 6.4 lbs
The Bag Boy Chiller Hybrid Bag comes with some of the highest ratings I’ve ever seen for a bag online. That’s because it really is a great bag for the money. Many online reviews mention how durable the bag is and how long it’s lasted them.
I categorized this bag as premium because of all the amenities it offered. The pockets are well thought out and should provide the organization nuts with a home for all their accessories.
The detachable cooler bag also works really well and keeps up to six cans cold.
The TOP-LOK system is great as well. If you’ve never used it, I highly recommend you try it out. Your bag actually stays attached to your cart.
For those who plan on walking frequently, consider that this bag has a single carrying strap, which can be less than ideal. Personally I prefer a backpack shoulder strap, but others may not feel the same.
PXG Hybrid Golf Bag
- 6-way organizer.
- 12 pockets including insulated water bottle pocket.
- Cart strap passthrough.
- Carbon fiber stand legs.
- 4-point single carry strap with quick disconnects and padded back panel.
- 7.5 lbs
The most expensive hybrid bag I reviewed is the PXG Hybrid Golf Bag. That said, it felt like a premium bag with the clean poly-leather material.
These are well-constructed bags and worth the extra cost. Premium features like carbon fiber stand legs and microfiber-lined valuables pocket with combo lock are nice touches.
For those golfers who appreciate innovative features, the club organizer system is very unique. The 6-way divider is normal, however, the patent-pending magnetic putter attachment saves you a slot in your organizer.
A little unnecessary in my opinion, but for some it provides a little easier access to your putter.
Overall, a solid bag that will make any golfer looking for a premium bag happy with their purchase.
Best Value or Budget Hybrid Golf Bag
Founders Club Hybrid Stand Golf Bag
- 14-way organizer w/ full length dividers.
- 10 pockets including insulated cooler pocket.
- Dual strap carrying system and padded hip pads.
- Electronic charging power bank
- Integrated push cart base.
- 5.5 lbs
Many review sites have the Founders Club Hybrid Stand Bag ranked as their top hybrid golf bag. I ended up ranking this as the best value bag since it offers a ton of features under $200.
For starters, the bag is lightweight at 5.5 pounds and comes equipped with a dual strap carrying system and padded hip pads. This makes walking a breeze.
When I demo’ed this bag, I walked 18 holes with it. Afterwards, I felt great and my back wasn’t sore at all, which is a common occurrence for me.
For the tech junkies, this bag includes a portable charging bank so your phone or speaker never runs out of charge on the course. An added bonus that certainly provides value for a bag I would consider budget priced.
Another feature worth mentioning are the five built in grab handles. These made moving the bag in and out of the bed of my truck super easy. Not a game changer by any means, but certainly a useful feature.
With all that said, you really can’t go wrong with this bag.
Runner Up:
Best Value or Budget Hybrid Golf Bag
Bag Boy HB – 14 Hybrid Bag
- 14-way organizer w/ full length dividers.
- 7 pockets including insulated cooler pocket.
- TOP-LOK technology.
- Dual shoulder straps
- 5.4 lbs
Another great bag from the folks at Bag Boy. Golfers looking for a quality product at a fair price, look no further than the HB – 14 Hybrid Bag.
For starters, as you would expect from a hybrid bag there are 14 club slots with full length dividers. Sometimes pulling clubs in and out of organizers can be difficult, especially if you have wider grips like myself, but I found this bag to be easy.
I also like the fact that you get an insulated cooler pocket, TOP-LOK technology and a lightweight bag, all for under $200.
Although this wouldn’t be my first choice in this price range, it’s certainly a great product. It also comes in some unique color combos that you can’t get with many other bags.
Honorable Mention:
Best Value or Budget Hybrid Golf Bag
Izzo Versa Stand Bag
- 11-way organizer.
- 6 pockets including insulated bottle pocket.
- Ergonomic sidewinder single strap.
- Free personalization.
- 5.8 lbs
For those who have never heard of Izzo, it falls under the Callaway Golf brand. Not surprisingly, they make high-quality bags at a fair price.
In particular, the Izzo Versa stand bag offers some nice features for a budget option.
Although not a 14 slot bag, the 11-way organizer is still perfect to fit all your clubs neatly.
In terms of storage, the bag offers 2 easy close magnetic pockets, which are nice to get in and out of your bag quickly on the course. The velour lined, water-resistant valuables pocket is very convenient to protect your phone and wallet on the course as well.
Additionally, the insulated bottle pocket is a nice amenity.
Overall, I would say the Izzo Versa is definitely worth it, however, there are probably better options out there for the price. In particular, I like the Founders Club Hybrid Stand Golf Bag. It’s cheaper and you get much more bang for your buck.
Best Lightweight Hybrid Golf Bag
Titleist Hybrid 5 Stand Bag
- 5-way organizer.
- 7 pockets including waterproof valuables pocket.
- Premium double strap system.
- Push cart friendly design and cart strap tunnel.
- Low profile top cuff.
- 11 color combinations.
- 4.6 lbs
The Titleist Hybrid 5 Stand Bag is one of the lightest hybrid bags on the market, which makes this a great option for the golfer who walks frequently and rides.
What I like best about this bag is how much storage capacity it has despite the size. When I demo’ed the bag, I attempted to fit all of my regular gear and then some extra clothing in the bag, it all fit fine.
This is a very sturdy bag that also fits well on a push cart. The integrated cart strap tunnel works well and kept the bag in place during my round.
Golfers who carry regularly will be even more happy with the premium double strap system. It felt comfortable on my shoulders and didn’t dig into my back.
Overall, this is a really solid bag and worth the money.
Runner Up:
Best Lightweight Hybrid Golf Bag
Datrek Go Lite Hybrid Stand Bag
- 14-way organizer w/ full length dividers.
- 6 pockets including oversized insulated cooler pocket.
- Riding and push cart compatible base.
- TOP-LOK technology.
- 15 color combinations.
- 5.2 lbs
Usually the lighter the bag, the less likely it is to have a true 14-way organizer.
The Datrek Go Lite Hybrid Bag doesn’t sacrifice club organization for less weight though. At 5.2 pounds, this is a very light bag, making walking a round less effort.
I also like the fact that the bag comes with TOP-LOK technology.
This really is an impressive bag in person. It just feels tight and the color combinations are sharp. At just over $200, this bag is well worth the money and should be considered for anyone wanting a lighter hybrid bag.
Honorable Mention:
Best Lightweight Hybrid Golf Bag
TaylorMade Hybrid Golf Bag
- 14-way organizer w/ 4 full length dividers.
- 10 pockets including insulated beverage pocket.
- Contoured ergonomic should strap with air mesh. EVA molded hip pad.
- Cart compatible base.
- 5.7 lbs
When you think about a lightweight bag you don’t assume that it will be as durable as a heavier bag. But that’s where you are wrong.
The TaylorMade Supreme Hybrid Golf Bag is a well constructed lightweight bag, with high-quality fabric.
This bag will hold up to the rigors of a long golf season.
It’s also got a decent sized cooler pocket for two sodas, which was really easy to access while walking with the bag. Not as big as other cooler pockets I’ve seen, but it gets the job done.
I also found that this bag in particular fit in a golf cart very well. Nothing jiggled around when going over bumpy pavement or uneven grassy areas.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that it only has 4 full length dividers. So, if you’re looking for individual compartments for each club then you should find a different bag.
H3: Frequently Asked Questions
A hybrid golf bag is essentially a combination of a traditional stand bag and a cart bag. Typically, these bags are lighter and easy to carry with padded backpack style shoulder straps. In addition, they sport a fold out stand, cart strap pass through and rubberized bottom that will fit well into a cart.
Yes, you can absolutely use a hybrid bag on a golf cart. That’s what they’re designed for. Many hybrid bags feature a cart strap pass through, that helps keep the bag in place but also protects the bag from wear and tear. I used to have a stand bag that I used frequently for riding, but the material began to fray and wear away eventually over time.
Additionally, hybrid golf bags usually have a rubberized bottom that fits snuggly into the back of a cart. This will also work well in a cart trolley, preventing the bag from moving around, especially over rough terrain.
That depends on the number of slots the golf bag has. For 14-way organizers, the top wells are reserved for your longer clubs, like a driver, hybrid or fairway wood. Then the middle to bottom wells should be used in order of your longest irons to your wedges.
This allows for easy access to your clubs on the course. With hybrid bags that have less than 14 slots, you can group similar length clubs. I used a 5-way bag for years. I kept my woods and driver in the top, full width well and then organized my irons in the two middle wells. In the bottom two wells I kept my putter on one side and my wedges on the other.
That said it’s all personal preference. It’s your golf bag and you should be doing what works best for you.
Absolutely, that is what they’re designed for. The beauty of a hybrid golf bag is that it’s light enough to use for walking a round of 18 holes. A stand and backpack straps also make carrying much easier and comfortable.
Yes, you can use a hybrid golf bag at the range. Since they’re easy to carry you can bring them from your car to the range without much effort.
I reviewed over 20 hybrid bags that weighed as little as 4.4 lbs and as much as 7.5 lbs. Depending on which bag you choose will determine how heavy the actual bag is.
If your preference is that you don’t want to lug around a heavy bag, then I recommend choosing a lighter bag like the Big Max Dri Lite Hybrid Bag (4.4 lbs) or the Titleist Hybrid 5 Stand Bag (4.6 lbs).
If for some reason you want a heavy, more durable bag, the heaviest bag I reviewed was the PXG Hybrid Stand Bag (7.5 lbs) or the Mizuno Tour 14-Way Stand Bag (7.4 lbs).
